Lecture style or Modern style

Lecture style or Modern style theatres encourage a strong relationship between the actors and audience. There is no separating Proscenium arch and instead an open space, so that the actors and the audience are in the same "room". The seating usually tiers downward with the front row on the same level as the performance space.

Theatre in-the-round

Theatre in-the-round is when a stage is surrounded on all sides or three sides by audience. Perhaps like a sports stadium or circus ring, the actors can be viewed from all angles. The relationship between the actors and the audience is immediate and the use of sets can be difficult.

Amphitheatres

Amphitheatres are found both indoor and outdoor. The stage is usually of spherical or elliptical shape, with tiers of audience seating following the curved line of the stage to enclose the performance space.
